Hi, all. I was told by my mechanic that he could not align my 93 Camry XLE because the inner tie rod (not sure which side) has excessive wear. I have noticed any play or pull in the steering, but he advised me I will start to get tire wear. He recommended replacing the steering rack with a rebuilt one, for a total of $585 (including the alignment). On the other hand, I can get a NAPA tie rod for $75 and install it myself, and save a few hudred bucks. I have not done this job, but recently replaced the struts and axels. How does the tie rod job compare? Any advice on replacing the rack vs. only the tie rod?

for moog - should be easy job -- you may need a pickle fork. Not sure why he'd want to replace the entire steering rack?

You should be able to determine which side has the play by jacking up the front of the car and then twist each wheel right and left and see which side has the play. I had some play on my inner tie rod on the driver side of my
