You're jokiing, right? If it's the four cylinder (you don't say otherwise) couldn't be much simpler. The pictorial guide for changing the alternator belt is next to the one for adding air to the tires. Sorry. It really is simple. The only caution in the factory manual, is to align the ribs on the new belt correctly with the corresponding grooves in the pulley, so the belt doesn't hang over slightly to one side or the other. While this is fairly obvious, they do show a drawing. The only other item is to check the belt tension. Using a belt tension gauge is best. That belt takes a fairly high tension, something like

110 lbs. "used" after being run for five minutes. The alternator belt is right out front, so nothing else has to be removed and there is a long adjusting bolt right on top to make tensioning easy after merely loosening the clamping bolt. Usually the alternator and power steering belts are changed with the timing belt replacemnt because they need to be removed to gain access. If the alternator belt is worn, you might want to check the last time the timing belt was changed also. Haynes manual has pictures for this and many other repair and maintenance procedures and is less than $20.

belt ?

thanks for the help, it really was simple to change the alternator belt, but my power steering belt was also broken and haynes manual was not helpful, i think i've figured out the pivot and adjustment bolts for it but just can't get to them easily.

Lift the car with a hydraulic floor jack under the front engine support cross member, (add jack stands) remove the right front wheel and small plastic access cover. Removing the power steering belt is not too challenging, it's tensioning it. Try using a wrench, or two combination wrenches "daisy chained" together (open end linked to the box end) and pry using the square section on the bottom of the pump housing. Even better if you can get someone else to tighten the holding bolt when you're applying tension. I had my 11 yr. old son do this using a long extension, and he thought it was fun to use the fully polished ratchet handle.

One thing's certain. The steering wheel will be hard to turn. Try turning the wheel before driving off, then decide. Got to ask, how did you happen to have the power steering belt break?

my alternator belt broke off and it got stuck in layers underneath the power steering belt and i tired to remove as much as i could but it was still stuck, when I replaced the alternator belt and tested it, the power steering belt gave..

Back to my earlier point, since those drive belts are routinely replaced with the timing belt - if the timing belt replacement may also be overdue, don't forget that one.
