I just put a $100 deposit on a relatively rare '95 Four cylinder automatic wagon. Two owners, clean Carfax record, just one area of rust on one wheelwell. 108k miles.I had concerns about two things, but figured if I wanted a Camry wagon, I'd better reserve it...anyway, here's what I'm concerned about:
- The transmission shifts rather harshly. I haven't seen service records yet (I looked it over and drove it where I work), so I'm hoping it just needs a power flush. I just read a reference, though, to a check ball that gets loose in the transmission in some cars, causing harsh shifting. Estimated repair cost: astronomical. How worried should I be about this? Our '95 Camry sedan shifts much more smoothly. This one doesn't hesitate, clunk, or do any of the usual Bad Transmission Things - it just shifts too abruptly.
- When starting and stopping, there is a faint groan from the right front wheel area. The wheel doesn't feel like it has play in it, and the car handles fine. CV joint? suspension? The owner claims it never makes a clicking noise in cold weather.
Are there any wagon-specific problem areas I should know about?
