97 camry EGR VSV

BWAAAHAAAHAAHAAHAAHAAA! Back in the mid 90's there was a development engineer who must have caught his wife cheating on him or something, because he came to work so pissed off he decided to bury the EGR VSV in such a place as to make it as accessible as a game of beer pong with the pope. So anyway, there are a few different routes you can go. If you have a decent compliment of hand tools you can experiment with different combinations of a 12mm socket and various extensions until you find one that hits. The method I have used for years is one deep 12mm Snapon swivel socket on a 3/8 Ingersol Rand air impact. That sucker fits in there perfectly through the wheel well, only takes a few minutes. The other option is to just put the vacuum hoses on the new valve, plug it in, and find some place to zip-tie in there. Its not the most elegant solution, but if you tie it in there tight you'll probably be okay. I've seen that done more than once. Good luck!

Jack the car up.Block it accordingly and remove the right wheel. With the engine cold run your hand kind of up between the fire wall and the engine. The VSV is hiding up there. When you feel a rectangular thing with two vacuum hoses and an electical connector thats it. I was lucky,the bolt was not on very tight and a socket with extention and swivel broke it loose. I relocated the new valve about five inches higher where there was an empty threaded hole. Wonder if that was the intended mounting spot since now it can be accesed from the top. Good luck....
