Is the airbag active when the key is shutoff. Say the car is parked on the street and hit in the front end, will the bag deploy ?

Is there a practical reason for this question? Don't believe there is any power to the airbags with the key off. While they're are expanded by compressed gas, the triggers are activated by sensors which are electronically controlled. The system does stay active for a short time after switching off the key, which is why they recommend always waiting 90 seconds to avoid accidental deployment before working on the system, but not likely to activate if the car has been parked.

Maybe he wants to steal one from a parked car? Manual says to disconned battery cable and wait 5 minutes. Hopefully if he is stealing one it will go off and embed the screw driver in his forehead.
