Hi....I'm considering buying a Camry LE 2007; anyone know of a known issues already?

Thank you

Some of the auto transmissions are known to skip gears. Owners reported the tranny going into neutral when trying to accelerate. This happened intermittently that dealers couldn't even find the problem. Make sure the car is already fixed under the side air bag recall or have new side air bags. Earlier side air bags doon't inflate properly. I'd always wait a year before touching a new model production.

The 2002-2006 had two different transmissions. First the 5 speed and then the 6 speed. But not sure about the 2007. The 07 tranny was said to be made by a company other than Aisin and had a different id number.

Aisin was an ok, kinda dirty of a transmission. They had their problems but were generally ok for the average driver over the years. But IMO the new tranny is junk with 20% fewer parts. I didn't know Aisin would have 20% of optional parts stuffed in their trannies.

Whats the real issue then? the 20% fewer parts or the logic control behind? same logic is used on other cars right? and same transmissions too? do we know if the same issues are encountered on other toyotas? logic controls the shifting doesn't it?

What I meant was that 20% of the parts in a typical 5/6 speed tranny were taken out probably didn't help in this case. It's not clear if it's the valve body (including shift solenoids) or gear hardware as little detail was released.

I doubt it's a control unit programming issue, because the 2002-2006's shudder problem would have been easily solved but was not.

I was trying to quickly find the original toyota news release on affected vehicles, but haven't found it yet.

So, they just took out 20% of the parts and didn't do any reengineering of the transmission? That seems hard to believe? Its possible they can reduce the number of parts but there will be some changes on the other parts of it and not just taking it out.

Just found the following post on Edmunds Town Talk from one owner two days ago, you can read the whole message there:

============================== #2604 of 2610 XLE V6 - Two botched repair jobs by toyotacarfan Dec

09, 2006 (3:07 pm)

I am having a heck of a time getting satisfaction from Toyota and my

3-month old loaded $30K Camry XLE V6. Immediately after I bought it, it had the 3rd-4th gear shift flare when cold, which progressively got worse (higher RPM flares). When I took it to the selling dealer, they said all was normal, and fed me nonsense about the new high-tech transmission needing to learn my driving patterns, and I was likely not enabling it to do so by not using premium fuel or driving in a consistent manner. So I took it to another dealer, which confirmed the problem and did the valve body TSB replacement.

After the valve body replacement, the flares occurred even after the engine was warm, and the cold engine flares were 1000 RPM in magnitude. On one occasion, when I pressed the gas after coasting momentarily and making a right turn at a busy intersection to go up a hill, the transmission refused to engage, and the car slowed nearly to a halt. After about 5 seconds of the motor spinning helplessly while the transmission was disengaged and while other drivers were swerving around me and honking angrily, I heard a "bang" under the hood, and the car lurched violently forward.

[snip] ==============================

My condolences to owners of such vehicles. I'll keep my friends away from the 07 Camrys for now.
