Camry Automatic Transaxle - how much fluid??

Aug 18, 2003 2 Replies

The owner's manual says about 2.5 quarts for a drain and refill. However, I am told that the transmission actually holds much more fluid. Most remains in the transmission when the drainplug is removed. Is this correct?

If the your transmission holds at total of approximately 7 qts, (minus the 2.5 you drained) the remaining AFT is in the torque converter, oil pump, clutch packs, band servo, and accumulator chambers. To get more out of the transmission, let the car sit for several hours before draining. This can make the difference of nearly an additional quart.
