Corrosion and replacement of fuel fill tube

I currently lease a 2002 Camry SE and have had problems with the "fill tube" on the gas tank. My "check engine" light would illuminate and the inlet area was found to have "corrosion". Said portion of the fill tube needed to be sanded down ($65.00) and then recently replaced ($331.00)! Has anyone had these problems? Does this sound premature to anyone else? I have a 1994 Camry that has never had problems with the fill tube!

Frustratedly,

Jason W.

Hi,

You mention fill tube and "check engine" - doubt that they are related :-)

I have a '93 SE V6. Similar problem with fuel. In fact at 125K miles, I've replaced a portion of return fuel line with a rubber type. It was one source of a gas leak. The second source (still there) is most likely related to the fill tube. Gas leaks when I fill up and park uphill. Runs down the tank somewhere.

May I ask how did you remove the fill tube? Do you have to drop the tank?

I also had a piece of brake line replaced - rusted out.

You must live in a the "rust" belt :-) And I do not mean economically.
