Door Lock Problem (Intermittent)

Oct 09, 2003 2 Replies
89 Camry - Symptom: The power door lock buttons on the inside (both driver and passenger) do not always work. Intermittent failure - although the problem is getting more frequent.

Note: I had the door lock relay/problem fixed during the recall back in '92 or whenever.

If I keep pushing on the door lock buttons the door eventually starts to lock ..or .. I can use the key and it will unlock or lock all the doors at once.

I also have a remote control (3'rd party). If the door lock buttons are acting up - the remote will not activate the door locks either. I know the remote was wired into the wiring harness for the door lock buttons.

What I find wierd is how the key will open all the doors - you would think the wire for the door key switch would be the same wire as for the door button.

Any suggestions appreciated.

STOP!

OK, now pull the drivers door harness out and repair the broken wires in the door jamb!

NEXT!

I found in my 96 camry that the wire(s) in the harness where it flexes at the door hinges actually broke from opening the doors over and over. The outer cover was ok but the wire broke inside. I would check this
