gauges - installing

Hello, My temp gauge or sensor on my 1987 Camry doesnt work. So i am thinking of installing one those triple gauge kit (batt, oil, temp) for under the dash that they sell at stores. Anyone ever install one before? Would it be easy to instal myself? Any tips? Advise?

Thanks!

Myc

Is there some reason for not wanting to simply fix the dash gauge? Might be only a toasted sensor or the wire fell off it.

Hello Philip, Yes, fixing the dash gauge is an option i am considering. The wire is still attached to the sensor, so i dont know which one is bad, the sensor or the gauge. When i first turn the key in the mornings when the ingine is cold it tells me the car is over heating. That's as soon as the car turns over and starts. And the gauge goes up and down making no sense throught the time it is running.

If i install a new sensor what should i use on its threads so it won't leak? That does'nt interfere with grounding it.

Any tips? ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks, Myc

Many (not all) temperature sensors have only one wire which indicates the sensor is a source of ground. Whether grounding thru a thermistor raises or lowers the meter reading varies. Use NOTHING on the threads.
