Your consumption is 7.3 km per liter. Camrys of the same year range in the Philippines with the 2.2 liter 5S-FE engine average 6-7 km/liter in stop and go driving around town.

Your consumption is at par with the other Camrys over here. Consumption is a tad high if you are talking about freeway driving. Should average 9km/liter at speed

One thing that can help is checking timimg, a stretched belt retards timing, I got 4 mpg better mine was off 3-4 degrees. Mobil ,1 5-30 helps me, a new air filter, plugs, and even synthetic in trans and differential help City driving doesnt get you good milage ,nor does the Ac.

You didn't mention whether yours is a 4 cycl or 6, and the weather condition (cold or hot), which make quite a difference. I am driving short trips in cold weather (now), and getting around 7+ km / liters. Mine is a V6 which will consume more than a 4 cycl. In summer, I get around 8+ km / liters.

Remember to tune up your car regularly to get good mileage.

Hi Aiuser

thank you for reminding me for that point. Actually mine with 4 cycl and i'm using it in Qatar which has hot summer. so i have already started using AC now. i asked one of local owner of the same model i have but with manual transimision and he confirmed to me that it is

10KM per 1 litter with AC provided that he is driving manual one. what i noticed that using AC is doubliating the consumption of fule. i tried once not to turn the AC on after full tank and it ran more than 450KM for 55 liters.

If I calculated this right, this is about 17 miles per gallon.

Did you check your air filter? I found a nice "surprise" after buying my '99 camry last month... leaves and even a small plastic potato chip bag inside the air filter housing. Mileage increased right after... last fillup, I calculated 30.8 miles per gallon (I've got a 4-cylinder, was driving on the freeway at ~65 miles/hr).

Don't forget to drain your transmission fluid and refill... check your manual, I think you need Dexron III. You have an automatic transmission, right?

You filled with 5W30 oil?

About that turning problem... try changing your differential oil. Gear oil doesn't sound right for an automatic transmission - you should use Dexron III I think.

Mrdarret you have an Animal making his home in your air filter, you need to check it often, put a moth ball in the housing, but still check it later, you might find out those critters removed the moth ball, Ive seen it happen, for real.

Possible... it was most likely parked outside on the streets of San Francisco before I bought it.

It's garaged now. I'll double-check under the air filter, but I don't recall seeing any more leaves.

Any recommendations on making sure the critters (mice?) are flushed out? Will the moth ball kill the critters?

It is a rare occurance, once an animal finds a home he comes back since it happened at a different location you left him behind.

Which equals to 13,75 Liters per 100kms. It's high. Check O2 sensor, throttle body sensor, catalytic converter, plugs, air filter, among other things. Have a mechanic use a diagnostic computer. Check for leaks in the gas tank and filler neck.

55 liters divided by 400 kms = 13,75 L/100kms (universally accepted way of measuring fuel consumption when using kms and Ls). 13,75 L/100 kms is too much.
