Rotors on Camry

Hi all, I'm gonna put new rotors and pads on my grandmother's 99 Camry LE (manuf. date 8/98, built in Kentucky). The pads I don't think will be a problem, but anything i need to watch out for with the rotors? Any special tool or anything? Any info is appreciated. Her rotors are toasted and I'm trying to save her $79/hr. Toyota shop fees around here. Thanks alot, Mastiff

I would suggest getting Original Toyota Parts and pads. My experience has been that some non OEM parts cause break squealing and steering shake after the rotors heat up. Also, a good idea would be to drain and replace the brake fluid as well. Nothing is worse then replacing the brakes and using the old fluid. New fluid should give you the best brake perfromance. Lastly, if the rear brakes are drums, make sure you adjust the rears so that the brakes "stop on a dime". Makes them more responsive that way.

Avoid the cheap India/China made rotors --- stick with Wagner or other name brand. If yours aren't warped or gouged - don't even replace them (unless they have been turned before). .Clean the rotors when you get them (they usually have a rust preventive coating).

The ones she has are shot! I ordered Brembo discs and Toyota pads for her today. I just need to know if it's easy to get the rotor off? I just take off the caliper and pull it off, right? I just want to know before I get over there and get it all torn down and find out I need to do something I don't know how to do. Thanks again, Mastiff

Yeah it should just come off once you take off the caliper. It might be rusted on though. Give it a few whacks.
