I was looking at the oil filter and the pan under it and thinking "That's gonna make a mess." So, I found a heavy-duty plastic bag and made sure it had no leaks. I let the truck cool some to avoid melting the bag, and put it under the filter with the opening spread wide. To keep the lower lip from sagging, I tied a string to the bottom side and lifted it up behind the filter then removed the filter inside the bag and just let it drop.
After wiping the filter carrier off with a clean rag, I just gathered the top of the bag and lifted it out the top. I got no more than a few drops of oil in the pan and just wiped them up.
