96 Land Cruiser Rotors

I have a 1996 Land Cruiser and I'm trying to figure out how to remove the front rotors so that I can have them checked at the machine shop to see if they need turned or not. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to remove them. I remove the wheel. I remove six (small) nuts from what would appears to be an outer 'cap' on the hub. But once I do that, I can't seem to separate the outside cap from the hub. From pictures that I have looked at in a repair manual, once I remove the outer cap, there should be the cotter pin and bolt to remove for the hub to come completely off. I just can't seem to get that far. I have replaced the pads on this, but have yet to get the rotors off. I did buy this used so I know the rotors have some use already.

Measure them yourself. IF the rotor is flat (not grooved or concave), you can measure it accurately using an inexpensive caliper. Get a caliper with instructions for use, they can be a bit hard to read to full accuracy by the uninitiated.

With practice, you'll find this to be an easy to use tool. Some calipers have a center rod that extends from the end, allowing measurement of depths (e.g. tread depth, pad depth, hole depths, etc.).

If the rotor is not giving you any trouble, it may well be in spec anyway. Measuring yourself will remove unnecessary steps of removal and reassembly.

Well, I guess the part I left out was that recently when I go to slow down, I've been getting a slight shimy out of it, so I'm pretty confident the rotors are either possibly warped or need turned. I think if I only replace the pads, I'm only doing it for practice and will get everything put back together, only to take them apart again.
