Advice needed for O2 sensor in 4cyl 1992 Toyota Pickup

Aug 18, 2007 2 Replies

My 92, 4 cyl pickup ran well until the O2 sensor in front of the converter rusted out and the wires fell across the exhaust pipe. It suddenly stopped running. It won't start. The mechanic I had it towed to, said that it should start even if the O2 sensor was burned out. It must be something else.

Will it start if the sensor is burned out or shorted, or will it shut down the injector system?

It should still run with a bad O2 sensor. Check the basics first, you need fuel and spark, check to see if you have both.

It will run with a bad O2 sensor though probably not very well. Indeed, you need to check for spark and for fuel. If the wires burnt out while running it is possible the wires shorted and might have damaged the ECU. But certainly check the basics first. Good luck. Al
