Heat Shield Question

The heat shield mounted above the cat. converter on my '91 2X4 rattles when I drive or idle. I've tried to tighten it up but it really doesn't seem to be loose, just "rattly". If I get really pissed at it and rip it off, am I going to regret it later (like maybe setting the inside of the cab on fire from the heat from the converter)? Thanks

You might melt your sneakers to the floor pan. Cats generate a lot of heat.

Helpful hint - prowl around and see if there's anyplace you can attach springs from the shield to other stationary parts to damp the rattle. You may have to drill small holes to accomodate (not into the body of the cat, of course).

Hi there one method I have used successfully in the past is to squeeze silicone sealant into some of the holes and seams of the heat shield, most silicones will handle very high temps. Joe
