Radiator Question

My radiator in my 88 4X4 22RE is shot. I have a friend that has a 89 2 wheel drive with a motor that's shot and has a new radiator.. I have asked some people if it will work for me they seem to think it will the only difference I can find is its a 1/2" shorter.. There are very few parts on the 89 that I can use and plan to give this to the local wrecking yard here in Gig Harbor WA input on if this radiator will work or not ?? is appreciated and if your in my area and could use some parts contact me.. @ snipped-for-privacy@comcast.net

Thanks for any help..Greg

It should fit just fine, but you can order one new from

formatting link
radiators.com and look it up, click on buy (its OK, it wont bill you, but it will give you the price shipped to your door in 2 days) I'm guessing it will be about $145

Thanks for your replies I really just wondered if anyone knows if this will fit? I will get the one from the 89 and see if it will work or not. I think the only issue is the fan shroud.

Thanks Again..Greg

Just don't leave the shroud off. It make a huge difference in the cooling effectiveness on most cars.

Yes, their radiators are identical to OE, in size, appearance and performance. In addition, the drain spout is the same too, its the nice o-ring type which doesnt dump your coolant all over the ground also.

Why not get the old one re-cored? I had that done for $150 which was the same price as a new one. They couldn't tell me if the new one would be metal or plastic so that's why I went that route.

Hi Well I pretty broke and the free one that looks brand new looks good to me.. I will make sure fan shroud goes on right or I will buy or have mine re-cord.

Thanks A bunch!! Greg

I have found the replacement is the same as the original. I wouldnt spend 150 on a recored radiator when I can get a new for the same price.

I guess it depends on who made the new one. A buddy of mine went through

3 new radiators in 6 months on his Suburban, but kept the old core. Got his money back on the new one and had the old one recored. Never had a problem after that. That's why I went with a reworked one on mine. >

Ah, that would be "Performance" radiator!

My 95 4Runner is on it's third radiator. The original developed hairline cracks around the filler neck 200 miles past warranty. The second, a Modine, did the same. At least NAPA picked up where Modine left off on their own warranty and replaced it free of charge. You can bet I sent in the warranty card for the third radiator.

As for Toyota, they said shuckey darns and too damn bad > > I guess it depends on who made the new one. A buddy of mine went through
