96 Jetta can't be started

Sep 02, 2003 1 Replies

Dear Group,

I got a problem with my 96 Jetta GL. it could not be started. After I turned the key, nothing happened except a slight shake of the car every two seconds. The last time I started the car was two days ago. Back to then I also got a little trouble with it. I had to turn the key several times before getting it started. So I suspect it was a problem in development rather than a sudden death.

I do not know much about car repair. So before asking the towing company to tow the car to a nearby garage, I'd like to hear your opinion on it. Thanks a lot!

Best Regards, Doug

.................You need a new ignition switch from an air-cooled VW or maybe a new/rebuilt starter solenoid from an air-cooled VW or you could just park it and get an air-cooled VW.
