Hello,
I was backing my sandrail up onto its trailer, it stalled, I restarted it, popped the clutch, and heard a loud "snap!" from the transaxle. Now it has no gears whatsoever (1-2-3-4 and reverse are all dead). I can open the transaxle oil filler port, and when I spin the tires by hand I can see the gears turning. The shifter seems to work. When turning the wheel manually,
1st is clearly harder to turn than 4th, as it should be.
However, when I start the motor, absolutely nothing turns in the transaxle (as far as I can see into the oil filler port).
The whole thing is acting as if the clutch is on. I've tried operating the clutch, and it feels exactly like it should.
I'm going to pull it all apart this weekend and have a look, but I was wondering in the meantime if anyone has an idea what went wrong? My guess would be either that something broke in the clutch, or in the input shaft to the transaxle.
The tranny is a type 1 swingaxle, and it's powered by a Mazda rotary engine (the rotary adapter uses a modified VW flywheel and a kennedy stage
2 clutch, heavy duty pressure plate, etc)
Thanks!
