confused about wheels and tires

I currently have a 73 S.B. Street Baja project with stock 4 lug wheels in front and 15x8 5 lug 5 3/4 (I think) wheels on adaptors in the rear. This is how the car came to me. I need new tires before I drive it this spring and the wheels looks like crap too so I want to find wheels in the $25-$35 range (such as my AR 767's I have on my Bronco) that come in appropriat sizes to put some beef on the back and leave the front geometry alright. I have a

1600 single port FYI.....who can tell me what size wheels I should get and what size tires you recommend to put on them.....the tires don;t have to match brands or sizes for sure, but I want the wheels to match and suggestions on tire 'size'......

....much appreciated!

I'm really against the use of adaptors becuase its one more link in the chain to fail. Especially the ones you have, garanteed you'll be tightening them up on a regular basis! The only ones I would feel somewhat comfortable running would be the 4 to wide 5 star ones. At least they are flat thick steel plates and don't need funky lugs here and there to work. with that in mind your pretty limited for a "cheap" rim. New you'll probably only find white wagon wheels in or near that price range for the 4x130. But, you can get them in all different sizes! I don't recomend going over a 6" in the front and an 8" would be good in the back unless you want a really fat tire. As far as tire sizes I would not go more than a 30" for the rear in the front thats gonna be up in the air depending on height of the car itself. You can probably get away with a "215" which you can get a somewhat aggressive tread patterned tire in that size.

Also something tho keep in mind is weight. I run 29x11.50's with 10" chrome steel rims on the rear and they are HEAVY my car does not like them on the highway as much as it did the 30x9.5's on 8" that I had years ago. Mark Detro Englewood, FL
