dim alternator light

On my 74 super, I noticed that when I apply the brake, the alternator light is coming on very dimly. I wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been nighttime. Is my alternator starting to go, or does this sound like some other sort of electrical woe?

No woe I don't think, but more likely is that the current draw with headlamps and now brake lights on at idle is more draw than the alternator is producing at that moment. I wouldn't worry about it, but speedy jim might pop in and correct me on a point I might not be aware of :)

increase your idle speed? It isn't 750 rpm, is it? I like 900.

Dave is correct; voltage drops in the dash due to the current drawn by the lights can make the ALT lamp glow dimly. Basically, it's normal and doesn't mean the alt is bad.
