For any serious hifi system, the alternator amperage alone is not enough to drive the equipment.

You need a capacitor to cover the peak load, maybe 1 farad. It's the lead acid battery technology that's your problem, it can't deliver sudden bursts of power and then recharge in a split second, ready for the next big "thump". Doesn't matter what kind of an alternator you have. The battery is just too slow. You'd be bombing both the battery AND the alternator with load spikes. The capacitor charges MUCH faster than the battery, and releases power faster too. The original charging systems will not see as much load spikes either, and will therefore last longer.

The stock alternator should be sufficient for most needs. Get a good battery.

Don't forget to add very good quality tweeters, to listen to helloween and gamma ray the way it should be.
