Is this a no no ? Has it been tried ? I was thinking of using a 2 speed fan off a golf or similar and hooking up a thermostat . Then I could fit whichever genny / alternator I like !

See the archives. The question comes up about once a year.
The blower, independent of the dynamo, draws better than 3hp. That's about 2200 watts.

If all you want to do is run another dynamo, the usual procedure is to fabricate a bracket to fit under the existing generator tower (which gets shortened), projecting to the right (when facing the engine from the rear), and fit a two-sheave pulley (ie, same as when running air-conditioning). This is a standard procedure for off-road machines that run a portion of the course at night.
(The half-dozen or so Flame-throwers are individually switched. You normally run with just one of them on at a time. When a hard landing breaks the filament, you switch on another.)

I thought as much.
I would have seen them about on the road if it worked !
Thanks Bob
