endplay

Hey all I had a leaking 1641 now on the work bench NO FLYEHEEL should there be .125 inch end play????????? thank rk

You need to mount a flywheel to measure crankshaft end-play.

Short answer: Yes!

You can't tell anything until you put a flywheel and some shims on. (If you plan to split the case, then you can see how tightly the main bearing fits in the saddle.) Speedy Jim

Sure. As long as there is no FLYEHEEL on the end of the crank. You do not, by the way, want to rotate the engine with the flywheel off unless you make very sure to keep the crankshaft pushed firmly forward at all times. Otherwise you can rip up that brass distributor drive gear. Colin

Without flywheel, there's supposed to be A LOT of endplay. You can and should only measure it when teh flywheel is in place, and torqued down to specified tightness.
