VW uses 'litres per second' to measure the rating of the cooling system. For the Type 1 1600 doghouse, it is 620 litres/sec at 4000 rpm.

If memory serves it is around 25cf/sec at 4000rpm on a standard day. That's about 1500CFM I think!

That sounds familiar, around 1300-1500 CFM. I sort of remember associating it with the size of the engine.

According to Mr Haynes there are two fans, a smaller engined fan pumping out
20 cubic feet @ 4000rpm and a bigger engined fan (for 1500cc) that pumps out 21 cubic feet. I think the diameter of the dynamo pulley wheel is the governing factor. Not sure what sizes are?--Steve
I have three different fans out in the garage. all of them capable of fitting the 1699DP engine. I am not sure which is proper or if maybe one is for a bus, another for a FI car, or what. one of them, the turbine impeller part has more vanes in it than the others, and is thicker across the vanes. then another looks the same as far as how many vanes and is a bit thinner. The third, is a as thisk as the second one, however it has far fewer vanes, probably just over half.
I may be wrong, but I suspect these features have some impact on the CFM of the fan. However, the CFM is not important IF the cooling surfaces are not clean and clear of debris. So,.............I imagine just knowing the anser was probably fine, but i thought I'd share some more unusual and useful info.
