Front end Work

I have discovered that the front end that is on my bug is not an early 68, but is a 68 and up. How do I know this?? I went to buy the tie rod ends and took the old one with me and told the parts guy what I needed and he brought out the ends and we checked them with the old one and the new ones were about half the diameter of the old ones. So he goes and gets the later

68 parts and they match perfectly. What luck, I guess, now I have the updated tie rods that should be better any way. I love it when things roll your way!! Now if I could only remember if I caused the difference in axle beams. My wife says that I did get another one from the scrap yard, but I don't remember it. That would have been over 8 years ago. LOL

Oh well, it could have been worse if I had not brought the old one with me.......

Funny part of the parts trip was, putting the old one on the counter and asking if these tie rods were bad? Lots of blank stares at the parts and then at me.......and then I started laughing and the clerk just smiled and said, "I was hoping you were not serious, those things were gone years ago!!!"
