Heater Box Problem

Mar 07, 2004 1 Replies

I have a 1973 std beetle. I have removed the heater boxes to repair the burnt end where it enters the muffler. I noticed that on one of the boxes it does not fit tightly to the inside pipe. At each end the metal is worn away from the inside pipe. The gap appears to be no more than 1/8 inch but there isn't enough metal to use a hose clamp. Could a good muffler shop somehow patch it to work, or, should I bite the bullet and get a new one?
