Help in Milwaukee!!

Jan 12, 2004 5 Replies

I have a 61 VW Vert, and need some help from someone in Milwaukee. I would like to drop a new motor in the car.....

Just to let you know, I will not take this to MOFOCO.

Anybody know of a good independent service person that could help?

Thanks,

Rick

I'm Menomonee Falls and I go to Voline Garage Central, 69th and North, talk to Dick. I have 2 bugs, he's the only person that can touch them!!!

Take my wife, but hands off my beetles!!!!

There is also a place in Watertown (Waterville? I moved back to SC a couple of years ago, I'm vague on details) about which I've heard good things. They apparently do a big business repairing MOFOCO's repairs.

Yes, I think your are referring to Connie's Repair Service in Watertown. Connie Holcomb is pretty well known for high quality repair work and restorations of VWs -- a number of his vehicles featured in magazines. I personally never used his services; but I heard good things... I happen to meet Connie at a VW show at Crystal Lake, Il. He drove his beautifully restored '52 ragtop Bug down from Watertown. IMHO, the best car in the show. I have 5 photos of Connie's '52 starting here:

vintage spotlight/mirror accessory is very cool. Anyway, I had a nicechat with him... a real nice guy, very very knowledgeable regarding VWs. I would not hesitate to take my Bugs to him for work.

Rich

That's the fellow. Sounded like a nice, knowledgeable fellow although I left WI without having had a vehicle he'd work on (the squareback was in SC recovering from MOFOCO and he doesn't handle type IV engines). He even has the original VW diagnostic equipment for FI.
