how to replace window seals on front quarter windows

Hi,

I need to replace the rubber seal around the pop out quarter windows on my 1970 beetle. Read somewhere that you should be able to push out all windows from the inside just by pushing from the inside (including pop out quarter ones) Is this true? Don't want to break the glass obviously. Any tips for getting the seal on and the window back in would be good too!

Thanks

Matt

Matt, I just replace my stationary quarter windows with popout windows. The popouts have a hinge that is screwed onto the body. Heres a couple of pictures:

I think he's looking for info on the vent windows. On my bus, you have to take off the nut that is inside the door and then it will lift off. Not sure that the bugs work the same way though. Andy

On the type 3,s ( if I recall correctly Type 1,s are the same) there is a Philip Head screw on top of the door that secures the top of Vent to the door frame and a screw on the bottom that needs removal of door trim to get at. You then tilt the vent frame backwards from the top and wriggle the thing out. You have to manouvre the vent over a metal stay that goes from the inner to the outer door. After a new paint putiing it back in will guarantee scratches so I usually get an angle grinder and cut the damn thing off. Makes it a 100 times easier. Cheers John
