Kill me if I offend . . .

Apr 21, 2004 24 Replies

I /do not/ want to trigger some beat-to-death subject that always results in flamewars, hurt feelings, annoyance and swelling killfiles. Haven't been around long enough to know what subjects are guaranteed to invoke civil intelligent discussions, and which cause rolling of eyes. Heck, if someone can show me an example of a civil discussion on RAMVA it would be helpful.

But I digress. My question: is it acceptable to ask questions about tires. Note that I have not asked about tires. Only whether it is okay to ask about them. Do not respond with tire advice until I have been greenlighted to ask. The first ten responses will be averaged and if I receive 70% or greater "go ahead, we won't kill you" /then/ I will ask. eatshit will, of course, be ignored.

I think it is ok to ask about TIRES in here. Some people may TIRE of it, but that doesn't mean it's not ok to ask. I'm not attempting saTIRE here, just giving you a TIRING response. It's almost time for the news so I'll reTIRE from here for now especially since I'm TIREd. :-). /got nothing (if they don't kill me over this post then you're probably safe to ask about TIRES)

"I can hammer it back into shape later." :wq!

Hell, /I/ might kill you.

Mike you are starting to sound a bit negative....do you not enjoy all the free advise you have received here?

You *may* ask about anything you wish(you have so far, right?) if the members of the group do not respond then it is probably either due to them being very busy, or they don't want to answer....trust me there have been many threads over the years that went unreplied to...tires are relavent to all vehicles including our ACVW's....

treating the people of this group like children will get you nowhere... JT

There has been many threads about tires in the past, so shoot and ask your question. I know nothing about buses so I have no knowledge about tires. However, this is a group about aircooled VWs, tires are part of an aircooled VW. So I say fire away.

...hmmm, I think you will have to google the archives to find one...try about 3 years ago or so....do am search for a guy named Matt.....we had lots of civil discussions with him

...Gareth

Not at all -- I love it. I just don't want to overstay my welcome. There are some questions that cause endless flamewars on some NG's and I sure don't want to pop one-a them into the middle of this one.

I ain't treatin' nobody like children. I've been on other NGs where some newbie raises a common and beat to death question and the collective response is something along the lines of, "Jeez -- that that again -- search the archives, read the old threads."

Mike, let me be the first to tell you that there are a few people on this newsgroup who have overstayed their welcome much more than you could ever even imagine doing. ;-) You're safe with your questions.

well it is always best to search the archives, but, well you know...most don't....i lurked on this group for a long time(couple years) and read the archives, not for my own knowledge, but because i really enjoyed "learning" the people here...alot of fun....

it is only unacceptable to ask if you can ask about tires... if you were to have just asked about tires then it would have been okay, but since you asked if you could ask you must be killed!!!!!!!

:-P

tires!? Who cares about tires. We need a nice chat about what oil should be used.

yes ok... lets take my specific vehicle for an example. My current engine has nearly 1/4 inch of endplay, and so hence has torn up its main seal. I drive 45 miles to work at an average speed of 70-75mph. What oil would youi reccomend so that I can use less than my cuyrrent

2 quarts a day?? =-)))))

Whazzat?

sure you can. I recommend you use google search first (click on the Newsgroups link on goodle, then type rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled, hit search, then it takes you back here. Then you can enter whatever search term you please, and limit the search to this newsgroup only. Works great.

Anyhow, if you haven't noticed your question being discussed in the past few weeks, I don't think anyone would mind. There was a question regarding bus tires a while ago:

Answer: get C-rated "light truck, or van" tires and keep the tire width within acceptable range for the rim width you are planning to use.

Jan

Huh. That was going to be my next question . . . ;-)

Do we need to make a collection or would this be pro bono work on your part, Mike?

:)

ROTFLMAOPIMP!!

::comes back to life:: (sorry about that )
