You only have to come to the Dominican Rep., buy some (about 1800 each), ship them to florida, and drive them to wherever you need it

it is nowhere near that easy....the later (post 79) do not meet US safety or emissions standards...they must be "rebuilt" as older models on an already registered US chasis or they won't be "driven" anywhere...not legally

I think if GM could save ENOUGH money,and get around the government regs we would not only have TBI but Quadabog carbs and Vegas.GM orVW as companys are no better or worse than any others.They will produce what the most consumers will pay the most money for.Its called free market.Air bags,seatbelts,cat converters,EFI are there because government mandates in the name of safety or emissions.If Joe Public wants a 10 mpg truck that costs 50k,GM(or Ford or VW)will race to sell it to them.So works the US and more and more the world.Steve

...................GM has been more brazen than most other companies when it comes to being contemptuous of the American car buyer. Re-badging the Chevy Cavalier as the Cadillac Cimarron comes to mind. How many '85 Chevy Citations are still on the road? Here in the rust belt, they've gone to the scrap metal dealers which is fine with me. Maybe GM is just better at judging the level of intelligence of the 'average joe'. As for Ford, there are still a few 80's era examples of the Taurus that are surprisingly still on the roads around here.

Ford will always get credit from me for the original Taurus design.Most original design from an American company-a real attempt at a world car,likewise the K-car though Chrysler cut too many corners to keep costs down.And the SHO Tauruses were too good ,but not flashy/trashy enough(stripes,fake scoops,spoilers ect.)for the public to embrace.Steve

You suck, Simon. Just kidding. Just way jealous. To own the last Beetle will someday probably be as big a deal as owning a KDF wagon. And its nice to see that someone who has an interest in the car and not in the potential profitability bought one.

yeah you are right....but don't forget that a vehicle really *is* a luxury...i think we(mainly Americans) take them for granted....i have more than i can drive, but i am thankful to be able to have them...some people can't....
