Beauty!! When I was a kid, I always wanted that one! (Of course, Simon Templar always got the girls so maybe that had something to do with it :)

What's the significance of the transferable registration (9418 RU)? What makes it valueable?

My '62 Mini is 1188RU! So that Volvo being registered as 9418RU would have been registered in Bournemouth in early 1964 (the RU's ran from Aug '62 to March '64).

It's a rare "dateless" registration number (you can't tell the year from it, unlike later plates) and it's also rare in having two letters instead of three.

Usually owners of 3 year old BMW's will transfer a classic plate to their car to hide it's age...

Although it really is such a shame to sell the registrations, such cars are given DVLA issued numbers that look awful. It annoys me a lot to see lovely original cars running Swansea re-issues. Plus it devalues your car.

Keep the original plate!!!!! It's a lovely Volvo, hope it gets the restoration it deserves :-)

Cool ! Thanks for the info Howard :-)

I will be keeping the plate with the car. And keeping the car oiriginal (might change the paint to metalic black though, the kind you cant tell unless the sun catches it and you are close up)

Good man!!!

Sounds pretty cool! A couple of weeks ago there where some NOS front wings on eBay for one of these...

BTW, I'm going to the Dorchester Records Office sometime (relatively) soon, to look up the registration info for my Mini...Since I'm going to have the "RU" book out, I can look up your car... if you want me to let me know... you can find out when the car was originally registered, and who registered it.

Congratulations!! I've had my 64 1800S for four years now and it is stone reliable. Love the cow horns and the swoosh up of the side molding just behind the door. As sharp as they look, they are still Volvos underneath, but still a blast to drive. Electronics are a bit iffy (Lucas Electronics) - my tail lights work only when they feel like it. Also make sure the drain hole inside the gas filler door is unplugged - otherwise water will build up and get in the gas tank.

Be prepared to talk to people - they will mistake it for anything from a Karmann Ghia, Ferrari, and Mustang (dumb kids) - anything but a Volvo.

You are lucky, I went to the records office today - something I have been meaning to do for 2 years!!

Details of your car is as follows: Registration: 9418RU Sold by: Gibsons Sports Cars, Bournemouth Vehicle: Volvo P1800 Name of first owner: Wakefield Date of registration: 01/01/1964

A little bit of history for ya!

I've tried to find if Gibsons Sports Cars still exists, but sadly they don't seem to.

If you send a fiver to the DVLA, they'll give you a printout of the original logbooks and any owners on their computer system. Worth doing.

Thanks Howard !

I will get that from the DVLA when the car arrives !

I bet it looked nice when it was new.
