Monster, careerjournal.com, and other career/ job search sites have tax burden and relative cost of living calculators, along with other measures (traffic congestion, weather, % of older homes to new, etc) which may be worth a look

I think you'd find a nice place down in southwest florida.........................The gulf side...........Very nice, never TOO hot, and the coldest I experienced was probably low 40's.

The total cross ventilation of the florida pinensula, is good for clean , unspoiled air for the most part also.

................I grew up in central Florida. It's too damp and the allergens down there are a chronic problem for me except for those dry periods that come mostly in the late winter and early spring months down there. The winter and summer months in the those parts of the northeast that don't have any air pollution have so far proven to be the best environment for me. I do have some seasonal hayfever/asthma type problems in the spring and autumn but it's fairly brief and I'm fine for most of the year here in upstate NY. My eleven years in Houston were the worst, a damp climate and lots of urban airborne pollution. BC Bugger's suggestion about Montana might be something to consider. New Hampshire would also have low taxes and a less intrusive state government and I really love the countryside & climate in this region. Also, Boston is a great place to visit and would be within a day's drive. Thanks to you and the others for some food for thought.

Kentucky has had that box for years and it always gets a $0.00 in it. They are just fishing for the few fools that will actually declare what they bought online and get some revenue from it. The only way they can enforce that tax is if they went through your house and tried to identify local vs out of state purchases. Time consuming and they would need a search warrant.

Yes, they have that form for Illinois, known as the infamous ST-55. They have had it for a long time before there was an Internet. They are trying to nab people that make major purchases out of the country and declare on customs forms now.

Barstards. Arses. Now I know why some refer to it as Eternal Revenue. Wasn't this what 1776 was all about?

But you're out of state. I'll have to declare it on my ST-55 and pay 8.25% on it. (Odd that the INCOME TAX rate in this state started at 2.5% in 1969 and is now only 3%, but the Sales Tax was 4% in 1969 and is now 8.25% in some parts of the state.) Meanwhile the money goes to support, amont other things, the DCFS, Department of Children and Family Services, also known as the Department of Communists and Frustrtated Socialists.

Charles of Palatine It's all about the money. . . .

I am in the 8.25% zone, and I do not mind funding CFS. I do mind forking over millions in tax abatements to keep companies in the locale, and they decide to move operations to China and Mexico. Let's not beat up the unemployed whose livelihoods were devastated by tycoons who need to make even more millions for God Knows What Reasons. You want to talk about Welfare Cheats and Deadbeats, let's start with Enron/WorldCom/Kellogg Root & Brown ( who were hand-slapped for profiteering in Iraq) Colin
