Hey Ben:

Is that a column shifter. I have heard of a 4 speed on the column, but have never seen one. I had a Maverick with a 3 spd on the column, and it was fun to drive at the time (1981-1983) but would be somewhat of an oddity today. Bill Berckman

Man, what a beauty. Sure wish I could have bought it. Loved owning one. They are really nice cars to drive.

not have a clutch

it's hard to explain in type

My 65 had the manual 4 speed on the column. The Citromatic also had the shifter on the column, but as Ben said, no clutch. You could shift it like a manual. I loved the hydraulics. Saved my ass one time on the Autobon, and looks "real cool(tm)" raising and lowering the car when the girls were watching.....*8-}

Hey, come on. According to people I've talked to, the DS only is the third most complicated Citroen to work on.

  1. SM (Maserati engine and Citroen hydraulics -- to drive is Heaven, to fix is Hell)
  2. GS/GSA (hydraulics, aircooled boxer no less, all in one tiny cramped package for your inconvenience. But a helluva nice car. I want one!)
  3. DS (at least the engine is virtually bullet-proof)

Airhowlingly yours, Erik.

My dad had a GS club, a 73 I believe. It was an absolute nail ! Big end went, tappets fell to bits, bodywork likewise. If it wasn't for this he wouldn't have bought the Beetle, and started something off...
