Should there be a spacer between the carb and the manifold? I've seen a spacer in a catalog and also have no space between my shut off valve and generator.

There is a gasket. No spacer.
This is a long shot, but the spacer you might be thinking of could be the
30 - 34mm adapter that allows the smaller 30pict carb to fit onto the larger 34mm flange manifold which is found on the dual port 1600 engines.Regards Kevin
