When I rebuilt my Karmann Ghia several years ago, I replaced the shift rod coupling with one that has the red urethane bushings. Recently, I decided to go back to the stock coupling. I could swear that the original coupling had rubber bushings. I bought a brand new coupling from RMMW and it has plastic bushings. It looks like an OEM part. I want rubber bushings to hopefully eliminate some of the noise that comes through the shift rod from the transmission. This plastic bushing version probably will not be any better than the urethane bushings in that respect I really want rubber bushings. Am I crazy or were the original bushings rubber? And does anyone have any rubber bushings they would like to send my way? I thik I threw my original ones away.

I'm parting out a car right now and the shift rod and coupling should come out tomorrow. I think the OEM parts are rubber. All kinds of rubber and polyurethane can be made in almost any hardness you wish. I take it the red PU parts are pretty hard. I wonder why they did that?

I got it out this afternoon. It's rubber, bonded into a steel shell. Is the PU just a block of poly? If so, it has almost no chance of working as well as the OE part.
