Superbeetle generator/alternator problem.

First-thanks to everyone who helped me out with my brakes-it was the clevis pin adjustment.

now my next issue-i have a 73 super that the PO dropped a 71 engine in.The alternator light is on-First dumb question-how do I tell if the PO put in a generator or alternator?

Second question-how do I check either one? I am fairly good with a voltmeter. I did check the V belt and it looks good.

Thanks again!

It's best when you have any electrical question just to ask Speedy Jim or go to his web site.(book mark it)

an alternator is bigger in the front then where it rest on the stand. the generator is a cylender shaped.

Hope this helps Mario

It's an alternator-is there an easy way to test it?

You can put your voltmeter across the battery w/ening running.

12V = No charging.

13.5 to 14.5V = Charging OK

Or, you can take it to an auto parts store that does testing.
