Type 3 fan removal

Yes, it just slides off, but sometimes they come hard and you don't want to pull on the outside edge and bend it.

Start by grabbing the outside and just pulling and wiggling. If that doesn't do it, you'll need a steering wheel puller and 2 long M8 x

Don't try to force or pry it off from the outside edge. That will ruin it.

Still wont come off, The bolts are starting to pull through the puller. I tried P&B and the heat wrench but I don't wont to get the crankshaft to hot. All I need to get to is the last bolt holding the oil pump in place, it needs a new gasket as the nuts on top were very loose.

It's hard for me to imagine why one might be that tight. Usually they are just slightly too tight to be able to get them off without the puller. I suppose it's possible that some idiot put gasket compound on there.

My puller must also be more rugged than yours. Make sure your M8 bolts are plenty long and well seated in the hub. The center bolt should stick down the center of the crank and push on the inside of the tapped hole for the pulley bolt.

If you have to destroy the fan to get it off, I have good used ones, but they are not cheap. I get $50 for them.

If it is REALLY stuck on there, then you might just have to split the case to get it off. You'd have to cut up the fan first, just to get the oil pump out and then split the case.

At that point you'd probably have to saw partway thru the hub and then try to split it with a cold chisel. Be careful not to put any force on the crank that might bend it.

I've never had any trouble like this, so I don't know what might cause it other than some misguided soul using gasket compound on that fit.
