Hi all... I posted awhile back about needing a complete set of thermostat control flaps.. found a set with just about everything... but I am still needing the spring and the little round rubber things that go in the flaps.. I have checked all around and can't find them...

The molded rubber bumpers may be replaced with a dot of RTV about as big as a large pea. Make sure it 'bulges' throughthe hole on either side of the flap. After it has cured, trim its thickness to between 3mm and 4mm. (The flaps are never fully closed.)
The spring may be any small extension-type coil spring (ie, like a tiny screendoor spring) having a pull of between one and two pounds (500g to 1kg). Use stainless steel safety wire to secure the ends, one to the actuating rod, the other to the blower housing.
The advantage of the original spring is that it may be replaced with the engine mounted in the vehicle, a task that is virtually impossible with the spring & wire arrangement described above.

Unbelievable....
I have a shed (very disorganized and messy) with lots of VW parts.. I thought I had seen the spring I needed once long ago (I also thought I had a set of control flaps.. no luck)... I went out not really thinking I would find it and low and behold it was hanging on a nail in the shed.. I checked a pic of the spring in my Bentley manual and it is the right one!!

...............I'd like one too but they're no longer available. If I was Bob, I'd get some geeky, pimply faced 'kiddie' to crank out a few hundred of them and then let Aircooled.Net sell them on consignment. Disciples like myself would pay thirty bucks for one in a heartbeat.
.........hint hint.

Bob, I appreciate your thoughts on things VW. I am building a MEXI long block and are including the flaps and the " Hoover " bit found in an uncompromised state from a donor engine. I would love to view your sermons..........I am a student of the subject..I am not new to the field as I have driven them all my life starting with a 54 Cabriolet in 1966 and etc..........jettas etc 68 Bug cabrio and now a 62 Ghia cabrio.......key word here is appreciate experience and share.......Eric

heh Would be easy enough to do. I already downloaded all of them from that sever in Turkey or wherever it was a long time ago. Oh. Did I say that? I meant: Do you really think that someone who had read all of Mr Hoover's sermons would do the things I did to the LCB? Which reminds me... Kim just found the title to the LCB the other day. Seems I may have signed over a title to a '73 Super Beetle that I used to own eons ago (instead of the REAL title to the LCB) to the guy who drove off with the LCB a couple of months ago... I might just have to go confiscate what's MINE. ;-) Possesion *is* 9/10 of the law, right? I possess the title to the LCB. *cue ominous music* Wouldn't this be a twist? heh heh

Oh brother, here it comes.
Do you really think the LCB would have you back after being dumped for a jeep?
63 Bajas are _very_ picky.

...................The LCB is probably seething with hatred for that treacherous Shaggmeister and his stinking jeep.
Check the dates. The Turkish trade school re-mounted an earlier version from when it was a permitted mirror site. The later file was about twice as large and the CD contained stuff that was never posted at all.

Damn, Bob. I was just kidding around about doing anything with your beloved sermons. You're getting a little testy in your old age. Don't worry, I already deleted your sermons. Get over yourself, and about my ass? You can kiss it, "pal."

Just FYI... and to stop the emails.. I *HAD* the sermons CD several years ago.. I have since misplaced it.. I have a vague recollection of giving it to a guy who was just getting into VW's, while I was getting out at that time. I am really kicking myself now for not keeping it....

You didn't. You asked a good question, got some good advice and it deteriorated from there.
