Valve Gasket question

Hi Guys,

A real easy one for someone - I'm in need of a set of Valve Cover gaskets for my 1980 Air-cooled vanagon (2000cc). One of the local shops here in town has the gaskets in stock for older beatles (he admitted my van was a bit too old school for him as he specializes in water cooled VWs so he wasn't sure - but assumed they'd be the same) - Can anyone tell me if this is the same gasket or not? Otherwise I'll have to order with CIP which is no biggie just would be nice to get it in town today.

Not the same. You need a type 4 engine valve cover gasket, beetles had type 1 engines with smaller gaskets.

Your gasket is the same one used in VW/Porsche 914 4-cylinder engines, if that helps.

Thanks Jan - that's what I figured but the guy I talked to is supposed to be the go-to guy for VWs around here so I wasn't sure what was true ...
