Agreed. I'm suffering through:

Diabetes Kidney Failure Broke hip 3 years ago. Just had a quadruple bypass.

I can't hardly keep up with all the paperwork.

AHA, that explains a lot. They glued my chest together 4 weeks ago.

............After all of that, you don't want some other kind of healthcare system do you? Any one of those medical problems might have permanently knocked you off line in many parts of the world. I know for a fact that dialysis has an associated mortality rate that is lower here in America than in any other major country in the world. Hip joints are a different story with the Europeans leading the world in innovation and new devices that are truly amazing.

Well, they didn't replace the hip, they just put it in traction for 5 weeks. The quadruple bypass is to get me in shape to get a new kidney.

A very good friend of mine is a general surgeon. He has reported to me that he considers himself lucky if he receives a third of what he bills. Between insurance companies setting rates, the government setting rates, the malpractice insurance rates, and paying the hired help and other office expenses, he has enough left over to live a comfortable life, but not enough to consider himself wealthy or rich by any means.

sounds just like my doctors in the recent years have done me.....what's new about that old thought???

Didn't say "nothing else". but I see your points also. I am all for a Doctor that is competent, running some interns learning to administer health aid. Nothing odd about that either.

Going out of business is what the government needs to do then. Not the Hospitals. Yeah, we're a rich nation. That doesn't mean that any one particular provider of anything should be so corrupt as to make it next to impossible to get healthcare without a life mortgage though. I believe, in my twisted way I suppose, that if the government would stay out of it, and allow folks to do without because they didn't make plans for health issues, or buy insurance, health care would likely regulate itself better in pricing. RICH people would have Hummer H2 doctors, and poor people would have Geo Metro Doctors. There are far more poor folk than rich. Without the rich, no research and development. without the BULK of people (read that as poor or nrearly poor) there would be no one to offer health care to at prices that are terrible and unreasonable. The prices would have to be competitive and the quality would be under more scrutiny also, by the folks that are looking for a doctor. ( this all would depend on people pulling their heads out of their arses and looking into good healthcare too.) all of these things would be self regulatory so supplies that are good would be available far cheaper, as well as equipment, if any manufacturer wanted to compete. Since the government has been involved, House calls are no longer available to the average people. Since the government got involved, tax hikes and the way our taxes are re-distributed probably has caused more deaths due to heart attacks from anger and confusion, than ever before also.

Sorry for all the rants, but I am a new homeowner. I have owned a home for just over a year ( and that means the bank really owns it for now) and all I see is CRAPOLLA!.............

It would be amazing to see how people would act/react, if they had to write a check for all the taxes they owe each year, instead of having it come out in little pieces each payday. I can imagine the public would be livid.

Tim, I have nothing against healthcare professionals. I have nothing against hospitals either, but most hospitals are full of fat (worth trimming) and very well paid physicians and specialists that would be just as wealthy if they didn;t have the government sticking their nose into the business. AND to top it all off, the patients they see would be paying far less for the same or better quality healthcare in my opinion. Some folks who get ill and never pay for anything are picking our pockets due to their lack of planning. Not because they can't, but because they won't. Some are less fortunate folks who might slip through the cracks on occaision, but should be qualified as needy somehow, to eliminate the massive amounts of money that are thrown at well capable individuals due to laziness.

It is terrible that our society has allowed our government (both conservatives and liberals ) to take such liberties with our tax dollars and support the unwilling to work, the unwilling to plan, the unwilling to help, the unwilling to contribute.

Welfare is no longer welfare. It is currently a place to get other peoples' money without knocking on their door to beg for it. or without actually having to steal it and risk getting killed while doing so. Most certainly without having to work for it.

I know, this crap doesn't belong here, but somebody else started it..........LOL

.............Your healthcare system model already exists.......in Mexico and several other countries in South America and SE Asia. The rich pay for good care, the poor get bad care or none at all. It's sort of like having the roads full of Cadillacs and donkeys. Everyone has transportation even if they can't afford a donkey by simply using their own two feet but the elderly, the infirm and disadvantaged children get left without any transportation........period. To put it simply Scott, your ideal model of a fair society is what people in places like Mexico are fleeing from........to TEXAS..........lol

.............self-regulation in medicine is like saying 'go ahead and die you old geezer because if your pension went bankrupt, that's your fault and society doesn't need you anymore and doesn't owe you anything'. Sounds barbaric, doesn't it?

This is a simple way to blow me off, but it is not a "model" of my idea or an example of my model. It is howevere , easy to "excuse me" and move on. The whole Idea I have is truely based on personal responsibility. Not " see who else I cn find to mooch off of" If folks would just take responsibility for their lives, there'd be a less expensive price for those of us who already do.

Yup,...........I'm a bit barbaric I guess. I do believe that things would be different than in Mexico, if it were done in the US. I said get the governement out of the business of medicine (or at least that was the intention) and insurance. Not deregulate medicine.

I really do understand where you're coming from Tim. But I did read your post and keep in imnd that you are compassionate and that you are thinking. My "model" is different than what you understood. I was lilkely just not terribly clear about what steams me in todays world.

Let's see now............Less government involvement. More government protection. Personal responsibility,..............Hmmm, what else. Oh!..........A Handgun for every one over the age of ..........Nah...........Maybe it was a Machine gun................no,...........well, I'll think of more later.

( anyone know wher i can cross the border un-noticed????)

Speaking of Buses, as a long-time VW Bus fan, I think that a "retro"-styled V-front VW Bus, Transporter, or Westy would vastly improve VW's sales in the continental USA. Hasn't the "new bug" been selling well?
