The only manuals currently available is for the 68 and up models from Haynes and Bently. The biggest differences between the 67 and 68 will be Fuel injection and IRS transmission. For the money get the Bently book. If you can work on a bug, you can work on a square, once you figure out the engine cooling tin. other then that, the longblock is pretty much the same.

The best overall manual is the 68-73 Bentley, which will still be useful for your 67.

Volkswagen Official Service Manual Type 3 Fastback and Squareback 1968-1973 published by Robert Bentley, Cambridge, Mass, 1974 ISBN 0-8376-0057-X / LPV 997 383 / VSQU (excellent book, complete and well written)

Haynes sells a pretty good manual that also covers the portions of your car that the later Bentley doesn't.

VW 1500 & 1600 Type 3, 1963 thru 1973, Haynes 084 (US) by J H Haynes and D H Stead published by Haynes North America, Inc, 1974, 1987, 1989, 1993 ISBN 0-900550-84-8

There really are 2 things you should do: buy manuals, and join the type 3 email list at

It's the best source of type 3 info anywhere, and it's free.
