Window regulator

Dec 28, 2003 1 Replies

I own a 1975 VW convertible bettle, and the front left window regulator is broken (a rivet is broken). I have tried to disassemble the door, but I don't know how to remove the window regulator (which is a special model as for convertible beetles, different from the regular ones). Do I need to remove the glass ? How can I separate the regulator from the glass support ?

Any help would be appreciated !

After removing the inner panel and outer scraper, roll the window to about half way up and then remove the 4 10mm bolts holding the regulator. you sould loosen the 2 13mm nuts that hold the rails. slide the regulater back so you can seperate the glass from the regulator. then pull the glass out. now your going to have to remove the vent frame, the forward 13mm nut and 2 10mm bolts at the top of the door. there is a philips screw that you have to remove (or cut, this is the part that causes you toswear or bleed). After the vent frame is removed then you can slide the regulator out the larger hole. hope this helps
