Does anyone have any suggestions for the complete removal of a car's clearcoat? Our 240 is now 20 years old and the clearcoat is coming off is patches, it looks like scabs. I would like to remove all the clearcoat and just wax the car.
Thanks.

Short of a complete sanding, and then a re-shoot of clear coat, there isn't much you can do. Once the clearcoat goes, the paint colour fades alot faster with out the clearcoat on it, and you will have a multi-shade car. Best to get a pro to take the clear off and re-shoot it. If you aren't planning on keeping the car for more than 3 years, take it to Maaco and get a cheapie paint job. If you are going to keep the car longer, get it painted properly, at a good place.

Thanks.
Thanks Rusty. The car is a 1985 240DL and I don't thing that it is worth the effort to get a pro to remove the remaining clearcoat. Thanks for the advise.
Sorry the news couldn't be better. But please, get another opinion by all means.
cheers
