Passenger side mirror broken

Hi all,

The exterior mirror (glass only) is cracked on the passenger side of my

1990 740 wagon. It was that way when I bought it but now some of it has fallen off and all that remains is a small sliver of glass.

I tried to get a replacement at Napa but they didn't have anything. I then looked at IPD but no luck there also.

What's next ? Junkyard or possibly another brand, like Ford etc.?

Thanks much,

Perk (:>)

Junkyard.

Or maybe someone is parting one out on craigslist.com.

I'd check there for parts, it's a rich source.

Here's a helpful R & R tip for the glass.

I used a heat gun on the mirror to heat it up; this caused the adhesive holding it to liquify a bit, thus surrendering its grip.

Was on a 240 series though: not certain if it would work on yours (if you want to remove the old glass, then glue new in its place).

Thanks very much, it makes sense. When I do get a replacement that's what I'll do.

When I broke the side mirror on my 850, I removed the plastic carrier (is it the same for the 740??) and took it to a glass shop, and for AUD20 approx they cut me a new one. Glued the new one back into the carrier, and fitted it back when set.

It's one solution anyway.

That'll work, but being the pass. side it is likely slightly convex.

Forgot to mention that, but I've never missed it (the convex bit) -and it was over 4 years ago. I think the original was also slightly tinted. Haven't missed that either. Mine didn't have electric heating/demisting wires, which some cars do have.
