S80 - detail headlight lens replacement?

Mar 26, 2005 2 Replies

Does anyone know EXACTLY how to remove the glass covers on an S80? All I have ever seen posted are very generic things like, "You have to remove the front end to do it..." So how exactly does one get the front bumper/fascia off to get to the inner and lower clips that hold the glass in?

This doesn't look like all that bad of a deal if one knows how to remove the grill/bumper/fascia assembly. The upper fasteners are evident, the lower are not.

You can expose the two outboard side clips for the glass lenses by pushing the turn signals out of their mounting. You can already see the upper clips by simply raising the hood. This in theory just leaves the inboard side clips and the lower clips.

Help!

You cant change the glass only on US headlights, you need a complete unit. At least thats what the spare parts manual says. Have you got a spare glass?

The bumper is removed this way

-remove the 2 nuts for the vipers

-remove the 6 bolts under the headlihgts, 3 below each headlight in the bumper

-drill out 4 rivets on each side, in the fender in front of each tyre

-remove the 11 upper clips

Thanks Niels! I have found several places that sell the lens only and the dealer has told me that they can replace the lens but they want $400 to do it, they are charging like 6 hours at $72 an hour which is just unacceptable. I can buy the lens for $160.
