Instead of the 1997 960 that I discussed earlier this weekend, we bought a

2001 S80 2.ASR w/105k in mileage. The car is loaded. Tinted window, premiums rims(all flat polished with the little vents on the periphery), great condition leather, cd etc. It is a great car and a smooth ride. It was listed at the dealer for 11990 and I got them down to 10900. Clean Carfax. They have to replace the windshield and tint that passenger side window as it was not tinted for some reason. Anyway, the fiancé loved it and so did I. The dealer said, and I will obtain proof, that a major service was done including the timing belt. The car is beautiful. Anyway, we spent more than we wanted, and the mileage is a bit of a concern, but damn its a nice car and we put 10k a year on a car anyway. So that is my tale. I hope to make a lot of new friends here as I love to work on cars and I love this new Volvo we just got. Cheers to all!!

BTW- Where is the best place to get ticky tack parts. Like center console latches and such?

Well...Welcome to the wonderful world of Volvo. You bought the same car that I did. I got mine with 78K on it and it it is now approaching the 100K mark. Unfortunately, that marks the end of the extended Volvo warranty. You are beyond that point, so I won't urge you to get everything looked at prior to the roll over like I will be.

It is a marvelous vehicle truly. So smooth and powerful at highway speeds and so sturdy on city streets. My only regret is the poor mileage I get (I generally average about 23.5 mpg on my summer tires - Michy Pilots) and about 21 on my winter tires (Nokia Hakkapeliitas), but using cruise whenevr possible and not blasting out of the blocks helps.

Keep an eye on your ball joints. There's another guy here that had an early issue with his as well. Mine just went the ohter month (at 95K) and were still under warranty. Must have been a bad supply of them getting fitted into 2000 and 2001 S80s.

As for a great source for parts...I use Vparts autoaccessories.com. Great stuff, great prices.

Good choice, Aaron. I bought the same car with 78K on it a year and a half ago. Nothing but good things to say about it, although I am glad Volvo has extended coverage even for pre-owned cars up to 100K or 5 years whatever comes first. I did have to have my ball joints replaced at 95K, a problem which seems to be common on the 2001 S80, so keep your eyes on that.

The only complaint that I have is the mileage I get...the car has a massive engine so it's not a huge surprise. I have been averaging about 23.5 mpg on my summer tires (Michy Pilots) and around 21 on my snows (Nokia's).

As for accessories, go to vparts autoaccessories.com, where they sell genuine Volvo parts at much better prices than you'd get at the dealerships. I have purchased roof rack systems from them and been very pleased.

Enjoy the car! I know I do!

Greg
