Source for hubcaps? ('89 240DL)

Hi folks,

My 1989 240DL is missing a hubcap. I've gone online and not had much luck finding a source for a genuine replacement -- mostly just iffy- looking (and not terribly cheap, given that fact) knock-offs. EBay searches haven't borne fruit so far.

I'm not an experienced or knowledgeable car person, so I apologize if this is a stupid question for whatever reason, but if anyone knows a definitely or potentially effective way for me to get a replacement hubcap, I'd be grateful for the information.

Thanks,

David

I don't know where in the world you are, but in the UK we have specialist car breakers who provide good used spares from cars which have been scrapped. There's an on-line enquiry form on which you specify what you want, and it gets circulated to all relevant breakers - who then contact you if they've got the part you want.

Maybe there's something similar in your part of the world?

I've had the same problem for my 1994. The last time I lost a wheel cover, the Volvo service garage that I use replaced it with an old one that they happened to have on hand. They said, however, that there was no reliable source for new wheel covers for old Volvos (at least in the U.S.). Searching the lists of break-down parts is a good idea; but does anyone know of alternatives such as wheel covers from another make or year that might fit?

You could always replace the wheels with alloys - then you won't need covers!
