1.8T breather PCV emissions hose rotted

A couple of years ago an emissions hose of some sort (on the top of the engine) rotted out on our 2002 1.8T Passat. I had the dealer fix it (not free) but several months later we got a letter from VW stating that they would fix it free or reimburse us. We got $90 back.



Now the same or a similar hose on our daughter's 2003 1.8T Jetta is rotted. So I'm wondering if VW is fixing that one free as well. The folks on the VW Vortex MKIV forum say no but that deterioration of the emissions hoses is common on the MKIV 1.8Ts.

nothing offered from VW at this time. My guess is not enough are failing.

Those hoses fail all the time. Even more than the Passat hoses. For whateve reason this one was not effected by a recall. It will not be covered under warranty. If you are going to replace it I would recommend doing the plastic pip that it attaches to as they usually break when trying to replace the rubber PCV hose.

Thanks, Craig. You were correct, the plastic hose was broken at both ends. A pathetic design. Just for the heck of it, I'm going to report the hose issue to the EPA.
