2000 Jetta -Window Regulator, Door lock and/or Electrical issues

Nov 20, 2003 3 Replies

We have a 2000 Jetta with under 40,000 km. A year after the 2 year warranty ran out we noticed some weirdness with the door locks. For one thing, when they would lock or open, a loud clunk can be heard that is not typical of the way it was. Then recently, on an intermittent basis the drivers door won't lock with or without the remote and the vanity light occasionally won't turn on with the drivers door open, but would with the passenger.

Is this a common problem and if so, what is the cause? We took it to the stealer and he said they would charge us a lot to troubleshoot and more to repair.

Thanks in advance

The power locks are part of the door latch asm, as well as a micro switch that tells the car if a door is open or closed. Sounds like you have a failing door latch asm in the driver's door.

How much would/should the door latch asm go for new? Should one go for new or used from a wrecker?

Don't know. By chance, have your windows already been updated? If not, you could save some money on the labor by having it done then since supposively the door latch gets removed during that.
